Hi, I’m Andrea!

  • Registered Holistic Nutritionist

  • Yoga Instructor

  • Aspiring homesteader

I’m a Gut Health Nutritionist and Certified Yoga Instructor. I have a background in science working as a Laboratory Technologist in molecular biology. I have a keen interest in digestive health and have spent years researching these subjects in order to heal my own health conditions. I have come to learn that poor digestion and intestinal health are at the root of many chronic health conditions. I work with clients in order to help them to optimize their gut health and overcome or better manage their health concerns. I use education to empower my clients so that they can truly understand what is going on at the root of their symptoms and motivate them to take control of their own health.

How do I know that I can help you?

Because I have been there!!

For years I struggled with a myriad of health concerns before finding ways to overcome them. By addressing my diet and food sensitivities, lifestyle, and mindset as well as healing my gut, I have managed to completely overcome most of my health problems. I have become marveled at the power of food and how it completely transformed my health and now I want to help you do the same. Your journey doesn’t have to take years to overcome like mine did and you do not have to figure it out on your own. I would love to help you regain your health by getting to the root cause of your symptoms, coaching you through the process of resolving them, and empowering you to maintain incredible health!

Here’s a little background for you.

I have a background in the science sector, as a Laboratory Technologist in a molecular biology cancer research lab at a renowned academic hospital in Toronto. When I first began my career path, I had no idea about alternative and holistic modalities. I did not see the connection between diet and health. I was young, I ate poorly and I didn’t think much of it. Hey, I thought if it is available at the grocery store or in a restaurant then it must be ok, right? WRONG! My poor diet and lifestyle choices, combined with stress and trauma wreaked havoc on my health and I ended up with a laundry list of health issues.

Once I became aware of holistic modalities of healing, I made a lot of diet changes and even became a pescatarian (a vegetarian that eats fish and seafood) but I still suffered from all of my health concerns. I could not understand what was happening. I had a good diet, I thought that I should feel good - I did not. I saw many conventional doctors in hopes of understanding what was going on with my body. I was told that are no cures, only treatments, and that these were ailments that I would just have to live with. I was prescribed creams and pills, both of which did more damage than repair and I knew that there had to be another way.

I decided to cut dairy and I still didn’t feel my best but the improvement was remarkable. I had spent years being painfully bloated and to be honest, I thought that was just a normal part of being an adult. The realization that a food group that I had been taught was “healthy” was actually hurting my body was a revelation to me. I wanted to take my health to the next level and I wanted to learn more about nutrition, the spark had been lit! I started to practice yoga, dabbled in meditation, and began running. I delved deep into research on diet and wellness and I was absolutely amazed at all that I was learning, a whole new world opened up to me, an awakening.

Fast forward 5 years and two lab promotions later, I decided that I wanted to travel with my (now) husband. We traveled to and lived in many countries around the world and I experimented with numerous modalities of healing, I was open to trying anything new. I became more and more interested in natural ways to overcome my own health issues. I did a lot of spiritual healing, I became very fit and with an even greater knowledge of the power of food, I was able to completely overcome the rest of my conditions. My mood improved and I felt more grounded and optimistic, I learned to listen to and understand my body, what to avoid, and what to include to feel my absolute best. I even got my 200-hour teacher training certificate from Himalaya Yoga Valley in Goa, India, and became certified to teach Yoga!

Upon my return to Canada, I wasn’t sure what I was meant to do as far as my career went. I interviewed in a lab but it just didn’t feel like me anymore. I worked part-time for a non-profit in order to help marginalized innercity youth but I didn’t feel ownership in that either; it wasn’t exactly right. I felt this overpowering pull or calling to share my wisdom of wellness with others who are suffering from health issues. I knew that I could help people and I wanted to share my excitement about all that I have learned about food and lifestyle with them. Shortly after the birth of my son, I just went for it! I discovered that I could study from home with the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and so I enrolled and over the next couple of years, fit my studies in where I could. I wanted to graduate so badly that I made it work while being home full-time with my son and working part-time from home with the unwavering support of my husband. I graduated with merit and got straight to work on building my business and working with clients! I was really helping others in the front line finally and it felt incredible, and it still does.

Health is such a broad word/subject and has a different meaning for everyone and it can be very confusing and hard to navigate. Our circumstances are forever changing and with that, so does our health journey. To me, health is just that, a journey, not a destination. With all of my experience, knowledge, and education that I am now equipped with, I am confident that I can help you to obtain your version of great health too. I do this by offering education about connections within your body that may need to be addressed in order to resolve symptoms at the root cause of your health concern(s). I give you personalized actionable steps to implement into your life that will help you to get there because I understand that we are all individuals in our biochemistry and our life experiences. And finally, I empower you to take care of your own health going forward.

Looking forward to working with you….

In Wellness,

Andrea
